Built at the North Carolina State Fair
Hitchpost started as the gate software for one rental company at one very busy event.
The brief
Mobility Concepts rents carts, scooters, strollers and wheelchairs at the State Fair in Raleigh and at other Triangle events. Before Hitchpost, cash, carts, licenses and paperwork were handled by hand, at a venue where the wifi does not work.
The owner's brief was one sentence: make it hard for any of it to go missing without a trail.
What it ran on
125
carts on one system
5
gates at the State Fair
11
days, one record
Booking
Customers book online and the booking shows up in the gate app. The owner tested it end to end before the first event.
Raleigh Wide Open
The first event. Four staffed gates and one self-serve, on three tablets and a laptop.
The State Fair
Eleven days across five gates, with every rental, deposit and cash drawer in one record.
What came after
After the fair, the gate software became Hitchpost, so any rental company can run it under its own name.
Since then it has learned to take cards on a reader, hold deposits, scan licenses, follow GPS trackers and answer questions through an AI assistant.
Firmkit builds it. Firmkit is a software company in Cary, North Carolina, that builds tools inside working companies first, then offers them to others.
